๐ What is a WebQuest?
A WebQuest is a guided learning activity in which students explore teacher-selected websites to complete specific tasks and create a final product in English. Instead of freely searching the Internet, learners follow clear instructions and use reliable digital resources chosen by the teacher.
This methodology helps students focus on understanding information, developing language skills and working collaboratively while using technology in a meaningful way.
๐ฏ Learning Objectives
-
Develop reading comprehension skills in English.
-
Expand vocabulary related to school life and routines.
-
Improve writing skills through a final creative task.
-
Encourage cooperation and teamwork.
-
Use English meaningfully in a real-world context.
In this activity, students are invited to imagine that they can design their perfect school day. Working in pairs or small groups, they explore different online resources about school subjects, classroom objects and daily routines provided in the blog. As they read and interact with the materials, they answer guided questions and collect information that will later help them create a short written text entitled My Perfect School Day, which they will share with their classmates.
The process is carefully structured:
☝First, students organise themselves into small groups and access the links included in the blog. They then complete the questions related to school subjects, classroom vocabulary and daily routines, such as identifying common subjects studied at school, selecting important classroom objects, describing morning and afternoon activities or explaining how many breaks there are during the school day.
✌Finally, they use the information gathered to design an ideal timetable and write a short paragraph of five to eight sentences describing their perfect school experience, including at least one special activity they would like to add.
To complete the WebQuest, students use a selection of reliable digital resources, such as vocabulary pages and interactive activities from educational websites like British Council LearnEnglish Kids, ESL KidStuff and Kids Web English, which provide visual support and age-appropriate language input.
This WebQuest promotes autonomous learning, teamwork and critical thinking while reinforcing essential language skills in English. By working with familiar school contexts, students are able to connect new vocabulary and structures to their own experiences, which increases motivation and engagement and supports meaningful learning in the primary EFL classroom.
